Olivier Bergeron, a 22-year-old truck driver from the small village of Kedgwick, New Brunswick, stepped into the American Idol audition room ready to make his mark—despite a significant language barrier.
The Canadian contestant, who had never really spoken in English before, admitted to Idol host Ryan Seacrest, “I never had to speak in English in life.” As he made his way to face the star-studded panel of judges—Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan—he carried with him an acoustic guitar and a quiet confidence. Sporting a white t-shirt, backwards cap, and camouflage pants, Bergeron was ready to give it his all.
When asked by the judges about himself and where he was from, Olivier shared his background, revealing his age, his occupation as a truck driver, and his hometown of Kedgwick.
