Benson Boone Channels Freddie Mercury at Coachella 2025, Joined by Queen Legend Brian May
Benson Boone didn’t just make a debut at Coachella 2025—he made history.

The 22-year-old rising pop star delivered one of the festival’s most unforgettable moments on Friday night when he channeled his inner Freddie Mercury with a show-stopping rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody”—joined by none other than Queen guitarist Brian May himself.

Boone’s high-energy set was already a spectacle. He sprinted, flipped, and sang his way through fan favorites before announcing that his sophomore album, American Heart, will drop June 20. Then, in a nod to the late Mercury, he led the crowd through the iconic Live Aid “Ay-Oh” call-and-response—before shifting into his own soaring ballad, “Forever and a Day.”
But that was just the calm before the storm.
After briefly exiting the stage, Boone returned wearing a dramatic royal fur cape and sat at the piano. Backed by a full choir, he launched into “Bohemian Rhapsody,” igniting the crowd. As he shed the cape to reveal his now-infamous Grammys jumpsuit—and flipped off the piano with signature flair—Queen’s Brian May rose up on a platform behind him, guitar in hand.
The crowd erupted.
“Brian May, everybody!” Boone shouted as May tore through the legendary solo with the same fire he brought to Wembley in ’85.
And the magic didn’t end there. May and the choir stayed onstage to help Boone close out the set with his chart-topping hit “Beautiful Things,” as Boone flipped—literally—into the audience to wrap the night.
A Legendary Moment Years in the Making
While May’s appearance was a surprise for most, eagle-eyed fans might’ve picked up on the clues. Earlier that day, the rock icon posted photos with Boone from a flight to Palm Springs, teasing fans with:
“Look who I bumped into… Maybe something will happen?!”
May went on to praise Boone as a “truly golden 22-year-old prodigy,” calling him a new friend and official “pal.”
May’s Coachella appearance was particularly meaningful, as he recently revealed he suffered a minor stroke in September 2024. “The good news is that I can still play,” he shared online. “But there was a moment I didn’t know if I’d ever use my left arm again.” His return to the stage—and that solo—was nothing short of triumphant.
Boone’s Big Year
This isn’t the first time Benson Boone has gone viral in 2025. During February’s Grammy Awards, the former American Idol contestant wowed audiences with his explosive performance of “Beautiful Things,” ending with a dramatic flip—and a slightly too-public wardrobe adjustment.
“Sorry for adjusting my jumpsuit so aggressively on stage tonight,” Boone joked on social media afterward. “That thing was extremely restricting in certain areas.”
Boone is set to return for Coachella’s second weekend on April 18. After a performance like this, expectations are sky-high.
