The duty officer of the local police station received a strange, frightening call.
– Hello… – sobbed a girl of about eight in a thin voice. – Please help… my dad is under the floor…
The duty officer frowned and exchanged glances with his colleague.
– Under the floor? Girl, can you put mom or dad on the phone?
– Dad hasn’t been home for many days. And mom doesn’t believe me, she says I’m making it up. But I know he’s under the floor. He told me himself.
– Wait… – the man took a more serious tone. – And how did he tell you about it if he’s not home?
– I saw him in a dream, – the girl whispered. – He said he had gone far away… and was lying under the floor…
The police officers, laughing at first, thought that the child had mental problems and were about to hand the case over to social services. But something in the girl’s voice – her desperate sincerity – did not allow them to ignore the call.
– Let’s check just in case, – one of the police officers said. – Otherwise, if it turns out to be true…
When they arrived at the address, they were met by the girl’s mother – a well-groomed, slightly nervous woman of about forty. She was surprised by the visit, but invited everyone inside. The girl stood nearby, tightly clutching a teddy bear, and silently pointed to a place by the wall in the living room. Right under the fresh laminate.

– Where is your husband? – the police asked first.
“On a business trip,” the woman quickly answered. “In another city… I think, in… in Serbia. Or Slovenia. I don’t remember exactly. He travels often.”
“Can you call him?”

While one of the officers tried to call the woman’s husband, unsuccessfully, the second was questioning the neighbors. No one had seen the man for over a week.
He hadn’t gone to work or contacted anyone. No airline had recorded any flights in his name.
When the police said they wanted to open up a section of the floor, the girl’s mother began to get nervous.
“We just finished the renovation! Can you imagine how much it cost? Who will pay for the damage?!”
“If we don’t find anything, the insurance company will cover everything,” the senior officer answered dryly.
They started removing the boards in the place the girl had indicated.
A few minutes later, a scream was heard. One of the police officers jumped back, dropping the crowbar. In the silence, like a bolt from the blue, they said:
– Found… a body.
A man’s body was pulled out from under the floor. Wrapped in construction film, partially covered with the remains of construction foam and concrete. There were almost no signs of a struggle. Apparently, he died from a single strong blow to the temple.
Later, an examination confirmed everything. During an argument, the woman, in a rage, hit her husband with a heavy object. Realizing that he was dead, she decided to hide the traces of the crime, taking advantage of the fact that the house was being renovated.
The workers thought that she was simply asking to “fill the floor a little deeper.” No one suspected anything was wrong.
And the girl… The girl really did see her father in a dream. He came up to her, smiled sadly and said:
– Tell them. I’m under the floor. I’m nearby. Don’t be afraid.
