Andrei’s eyes flashed with cold disdain.
«You don’t even realize how much your mediocrity irritates me now. I don’t need a gray mouse; I deserve more!»
Olga’s lips trembled as she tried to hold back her tears.
«Do you really think money makes you better, Andrei?» she whispered.
The cozy kitchen, filled with the smell of freshly cooked borscht, no longer felt like home. Just the evening before, Andrei had burst through the door with a letter in his hand, claiming he had received an inheritance from a distant relative. He had kissed her cheek, laughed, and dreamed aloud of luxury cars, big houses, and a new life.
But overnight, he had changed.
Within a day, the man Olga had loved for years began to look at her with arrogance, commanding her, dismissing her words, and speaking as if he were already a millionaire.
«Olya, now that I’m rich, we need to reconsider our relationship,» he announced casually over breakfast.
Her heart stopped.
«What do you mean?»
He didn’t even look at her.
«I’m on a different level now. And you’re too ordinary.»
Shattered, Olga ran to her closest friends, Katya and Lena. Over coffee in their favorite café, she poured her heart out.
«Girls, Andrei has become unbearable. He treats me like a servant and says I’m not worthy of him anymore.»
Katya rolled her eyes in anger.
«What a fool! He hasn’t even seen the money yet and he’s already showing his true colors.»
Lena took Olga’s hand.
«We’re with you. Stay strong. Don’t let him break you.»
Days passed, and Andrei’s cruelty only grew sharper. He accused Olga of being greedy, waiting for his money, even though she had stood by him through every hardship.
Finally, Olga decided she couldn’t take it anymore. When she confronted him, she revealed the truth:
«Andrei, I know the letter was fake. My friends created it to test you. And you failed.»
His face turned red with rage.
«So you believe them over me? You’re destroying our family yourself!»
But Olga’s voice was calm, steady.
«No, Andrei. You destroyed it the moment you chose arrogance over love. The moment you showed me who you really are.»
He stormed out, slamming the door, leaving Olga trembling but free.
Moments later, Katya and Lena arrived. They embraced her and confessed the full truth: yes, the letter had been fake, but only to reveal Andrei’s nature. And then—they gave her another piece of news.
«Olga,» Lena said gently, «the joke was on him. There really is an inheritance. A lawyer from Switzerland contacted us weeks ago. The letter we gave Andrei was fake, but the inheritance is real. It’s yours.»
Olga’s eyes widened in shock.
«You mean… I really did inherit something?»
Katya nodded.
«Yes. But first, you needed to see who he truly was.»
Tears streamed down Olga’s face—tears of pain, relief, and gratitude. That night, she called the lawyer. The news was confirmed: a large inheritance awaited her.
For the first time in months, Olga smiled. Not because of the money, but because she was finally free. Free from lies, free from humiliation, free to start anew—with true friends at her side.
They raised glasses of champagne together.
«To a new life,» said Katya.
«To freedom and true friendship,» added Lena.
Olga lifted her glass, her heart lighter than ever.
«To us. And to the future.»
