That day, the paralyzed girl decided to go to the shelter for the first time. She had long dreamed of a dog that would be there not only for games and walks, but also for real support.
The wheels of her wheelchair creaked softly on the floor of the corridor as she drove into a spacious room with cages.
The dogs barked, jumped, each trying to attract attention – someone happily wagged their tails, someone loudly yapped, someone jumped on the bars, demanding freedom. The girl stopped at each cage, looked attentively, but her heart was silent. Not a single dog responded to her soul.
She had already begun to think that she had come in vain, when suddenly her gaze caught on the corner. There, in the shadow of the bars, lay a German shepherd.
She didn’t rush out, didn’t bark, and didn’t even look at the people. A huge, powerful dog with intelligent eyes, as if she was dozing idly, turning away from the bustle around her.
“Here. I want her,” the girl said unexpectedly firmly, pointing at the shepherd.
The shelter employee raised his eyebrows in surprise:
“Ma’am, you don’t understand… This dog is a real problem. She’s wild, constantly attacks people. No one can handle her. We even thought about putting her down.”

The girl, with bated breath, extended her hand – and the dog did not flinch, did not snap, but allowed herself to be stroked. Moreover, she took a deep breath and, strangely enough, fell asleep right at her feet.
A dead silence hung in the hall. People could not believe their eyes. Someone even whispered:
– This has never happened before… This dog bit everyone and trusted no one.
And the girl leaned forward and quietly said:
– Now you are mine. We will be together.
