She didn’t want to go home: cleaning, cooking, and endless chores awaited her, from which she dreamed of getting away for at least a day. So, almost impulsively, Anna decided to go to the dacha outside the city, where she hadn’t been in a long time and where, she thought, she could finally lie down quietly, drink tea, and just be alone.
She didn’t tell her husband anything—not because she was hiding it, but because she wanted to spend the day in silence, without conversations or demands.
As Anna got behind the wheel, she felt a sense of relief: the road stretched through the forest, the leaves golden on the sides, and with each kilometer it became a little easier.
Three kilometers remained. Then two. One. When the old dacha appeared ahead, Anna even smiled.

“Mom, come on…” her husband spoke wearily and irritably. “Don’t push me. I’m tired of all this already.”
“And I’ll keep pushing,” she interrupted. “Can’t you see? She’s no match for you. You come home every day drained, and she doesn’t even notice. She’s not a homemaker, not a wife, not a support system. She’s… an accident.”
Anna felt a chill rise from her heels to her chest. Her heart pounded so loudly it seemed she could hear it inside the house.
She couldn’t believe her ears. Her husband hadn’t once tried to protect her. He hadn’t said a single word to her.
