Alevtina Petrovna, a lonely elderly woman, regularly visits a small grocery store early in the morning, carefully counting coins to afford half a loaf of bread. When she quietly asks the cashier for help buying milk, she is dismissed coldly. A young woman named Varya overhears and steps in, paying for the milk and a bun.
This small act of kindness becomes the beginning of something much bigger. Varya walks Alevtina home, learns about her flooded apartment, delayed pension, and constant neglect from authorities. Refusing to accept injustice, Varya helps her confront the management company, get the pipes fixed, and resolve billing errors. Others join in: a plumber who remembers Alevtina’s late husband, and Sergey, a store worker who helps with repairs and later offers her a part-time job.
Over time, Alevtina’s life fills with people, warmth, and purpose. Her apartment becomes a gathering place, her loneliness fades, and she regains dignity and joy. What began as a simple request for milk turns into a renewed life built on kindness, courage, and human connection.
