Alevtina Petrovna, a lonely elderly woman, regularly visits a small grocery store early in the morning, carefully counting coins to afford half a loaf of bread. When she quietly asks the cashier for help buying milk, she is dismissed coldly. A young woman named Varya overhears and steps in, paying for the milk and a bun.
This small act of kindness becomes the beginning of something much bigger. Varya walks Alevtina home, learns about her flooded apartment, delayed pension, and constant neglect from authorities.
