Vera arrives at a formal business banquet and is publicly humiliated by her mother-in-law, Tamara Petrovna, who tells her she doesn’t belong there. Her husband Andrey agrees, coldly asking Vera to leave so she won’t embarrass him in front of important people. Vera leaves without a scene.
