The Beggar at the Altar
Milena stood before the mirror, radiating arrogance. She wasn’t just marrying Eduardo Blackwood for love; she and her mother, Verónica, were marrying him for his billions. As she walked down the aisle, she whispered to herself that she had finally won. But at the altar, Eduardo looked uneasy. His best friend, Tiago, had already asked him if he truly loved Milena, to which Eduardo admitted he only ever loved one woman—a woman who had seemingly betrayed him ten years ago.
Just as the priest began, a violent banging on the estate gates interrupted the ceremony. Security dragged in a disheveled, homeless woman who was screaming to speak with the groom. Milena, furious, ordered the “filthy beggar” to be thrown out. However, Eduardo, feeling an inexplicable pull, paused the wedding to investigate.
The homeless woman was Fabricia. Ten years prior, she and Eduardo had been deeply in love. Consumed by jealousy and greed, Milena and Verónica had orchestrated a horrific plan: they hired a man to stage a fake cheating scene in Fabricia’s bed for Eduardo to find. Heartbroken, Eduardo dumped her. Milena then ensured Fabricia was evicted and robbed, forcing her into a decade of homelessness while Milena slowly manipulated her way into Eduardo’s life.
Days before the wedding, Fabricia had overheard Milena and Verónica laughing about their crime in a café. A sympathetic waiter helped Fabricia obtain the security footage of their confession.
Back at the wedding, Fabricia showed the video to Tiago and Eduardo in a private room. Eduardo collapsed in tears, realizing the woman he loved hadn’t betrayed him; she had been a victim of his fiancée’s cruelty. He kissed Fabricia, begging for forgiveness.
Eduardo returned to the altar alone. When the priest asked if he took Milena as his wife, he firmly answered, “No.”
Before the shocked crowd, Eduardo declared he would marry the woman in rags standing at the back of the room. As Milena screamed in protest, the giant screens meant for wedding photos suddenly played the café footage. The guests watched in horror as Milena and her mother bragged about destroying Fabricia’s life.
Exposed and disgraced, Milena and Verónica were stripped of their financial support and eventually lost everything, suffering the same poverty they had inflicted on Fabricia. Eduardo and Fabricia were reunited, proving that while a lie can travel halfway around the world, the truth will always catch up.
