CJ Emmons Stuns on Britain’s Got Talent—But Viewers Cry Foul Over ‘Professional’ Past

CJ Eamonns

The Britain’s Got Talent stage has seen its fair share of surprises—but few caused a stir quite like American vocalist CJ Emmons. The Los Angeles-based singer wowed the judges with his powerhouse vocals during the latest audition episode, but not before raising eyebrows for his long-standing connection to judge Bruno Tonioli.

From the moment CJ walked on stage, Bruno lit up with recognition. “Oh my God. Oh my God, we know each other!” he exclaimed, visibly stunned. When Simon Cowell pressed for details, Bruno explained: “CJ does all the singing for Dancing With the Stars in America.”

CJ, a seasoned performer, then shared more about his journey. “I started singing at two years old,” he told the crowd. “My babysitter noticed I could sing, told my mum, and she put me in a talent show. The first song I ever sang? A Whitney Houston song.”

He continued: “For the last 10 years, I’ve been a singer on Dancing With the Stars. People hear me, but they don’t see me. I’ve always wanted to step into the spotlight, and I’m ready for the world to know who I am.”

With that, CJ launched into a soaring rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.” The moment was electric. Bruno was moved to tears almost instantly, and even Simon—known for his critical eye—pumped his fists in the air in awe. The crowd erupted into cheers as CJ delivered a flawless, emotional performance that ended with a full standing ovation from all four judges.

Amanda Holden called it “spellbinding,” while Alesha Dixon praised it as “a real moment.” Simon, never one to mince words, declared it “a vocal masterclass.”

But while the judges were unanimous in their praise, not everyone at home was thrilled. Viewers took to social media to question CJ’s inclusion in the competition, arguing that his professional background gave him an unfair advantage.

“He’s great, no doubt, but he’s a professional singer on prime-time TV. How is that fair?” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Another added: “Already famous in America… shouldn’t be allowed on the show. BGT is turning into a platform for ringers.”

Despite the backlash, many defended CJ’s audition, pointing out that talent is talent—and everyone deserves their moment in the spotlight.

For CJ Emmons, BGT was more than a stage — it was a chance to finally be seen. Whether the controversy fades or not, one thing is certain: that voice won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
