Until recently, I was battling cancer. Long months of treatment, the hospital walls, chemotherapy, which slowly drained my strength and my hair… But one day, I heard the most important thing from the doctor: “You are healthy.”
That same long-awaited day, my beloved proposed to me. I burst into tears of joy and, of course, said “yes.”
We began wedding preparations. For weeks, I searched for a dress, pondered the details, and secretly hoped my hair would grow back at least a little. But no—in the mirror, I still saw my bald head. I needed to find a suitable wig to feel confident.
I was very worried about what people would think of my appearance. Many of the groom’s relatives knew I had health problems, but I didn’t tell them exactly what they were, so I hoped they wouldn’t notice the wig.
And so, the long-awaited day had arrived. I was wearing a white dress, the groom was standing next to me, and the church was filled with light, quiet conversation. Everything seemed perfect… until she approached me.
My mother-in-law. She had always hated me, and I knew perfectly well why. My mother-in-law thought I wouldn’t be able to give her son children and that he could marry a “healthy” girl.
She approached slowly, and the next moment, I felt the wig being ripped off my head. I could hear her loud, almost triumphant laugh:
“Look! She’s bald! I told you, but you didn’t believe me!”
Laughter erupted in the room; some turned away, others froze. I stood there, hands on my head, tears in my eyes. I was ashamed, hurt, and offended. The groom hugged me and tried to calm me down, but I felt his hand tremble. Then something unexpected happened, and my mother-in-law deeply regretted her actions.
My husband did something unexpected.
“Mom,” he said firmly, “you’re leaving the wedding now.” »
My mother-in-law froze and tried to protest, but he continued:
“You respect neither my choice nor my family. I’m ready to give up everything for her. And remember: you yourself went through a difficult situation, and your father loved you, no matter what.”
The church was silent. My mother-in-law turned pale, turned, and wiped away her tears. She headed for the exit. The guests whispered, some surprised, others approving.
And my husband simply took my hand and whispered:
“Everything will be fine now. We’re together.”
