For thirteen years, Afsheen Gul from Mithi, Pakistan, lived with her neck bent at a severe angle due to an untreated childhood injury. Financial hardship prevented early medical care, and her condition progressed into a rare spinal disorder that made daily life extremely difficult.
In 2017, her case gained public attention. Although several hospitals considered surgery high-risk, spinal specialist Dr. Rajagopalan Krishnan of Apollo Hospital in Delhi agreed to take on the case.
In 2022, after months of preparatory treatment to gradually realign her neck, Afsheen underwent a complex six-hour surgery. The procedure stabilized her spine using medical implants and was completed successfully.
Today, she is able to walk, eat independently, and continue her recovery with regular medical follow-ups. Her story highlights the impact of specialized care and long-term rehabilitation.
