Only minutes before the ceremony, six-year-old Emma quietly walked up to her father in the hallway.
She held out a folded document.
“Daddy… I found this in her bag.”
He smiled at first and unfolded the papers.
Within seconds, the smile disappeared.
The document outlined plans to enroll Emma in a boarding school immediately after the wedding.
Still holding the papers, he walked straight to the bride.
“What is this?”
She froze.
“I was going to explain everything after the ceremony.”
“After?”
She lowered her eyes.
“I just wanted us to start a free life… without so many complications.”
Emma looked down as tears filled her eyes.
Her father immediately took her hand.
“My daughter is not a complication.”
The nearby guests turned to watch.
The bride stepped closer.
“Please… let me explain.”
Instead, he picked up the wedding program and slowly tore it in half.
“You’re right about one thing.”
For a brief moment, she thought he had forgiven her.
“A free life can start today.”
He looked at Emma.
“But it will start without us.”
Holding his daughter’s hand, he walked away from the ballroom, leaving behind the ceremony, the guests, and a wedding that would never begin.
