A homeless man pulled a drowning boy from the river — but instead of thanking him, the boy’s mother started screaming at him 😨😨
The November wind cut through the skin, carrying damp, penetrating cold up from the river. A five-year-old boy played between the chipped concrete garages. His mother stood a bit further off, pressing her phone to her ear and laughing at her friend’s jokes.
The boy wandered closer to the riverbank while his mother was distracted. The water that day was murky and rough — the current had grown stronger after recent rains. One wrong step — and the boy screamed as he slipped into the river. His heavy coat pulled him down instantly.
The mother didn’t notice. She kept talking on the phone, glancing around only occasionally.
The boy struggled to stay afloat, gasping for air, but the current dragged him farther away.
At that moment, on the opposite riverbank, appeared a man the locals usually looked at with scorn — a thin, unkempt figure everyone just called “Ehrlich.” A homeless man who lived in an abandoned house nearby.

He heard the child’s cries and, without a second thought, rushed into the icy water, still wearing his dirty clothes. The cold hit his legs like hammers, trying to knock him down, but he pushed through until he reached the boy and grabbed him by the collar.
The boy was pale, shivering, and sobbing. Ehrlich dragged him back to shore and wrapped him in his torn coat.
When he brought the child back to the courtyard, the mother finally noticed them and screamed:
— “Did you touch my son? You creep!”
— “He was drowning…” Ehrlich said.
— “He’d have been better off drowning than ending up in your filthy hands!”
Ehrlich looked at her in disbelief. He was hurt — but more than anything, he was scared for the child. Seeing her scream like that, not even checking if her son was alive, felt surreal.
And then Ehrlich did something unexpected, but completely fair… 😨👇👇

He made a sudden decision: he held the boy close and turned sharply away.
— “Hey! Give him back!” the woman shrieked, but didn’t dare come closer.
Ehrlich calmly walked away from the building, toward the home of an elderly neighbor — a kind and attentive woman — and knocked on her door.
— “Help the boy,” he said, gasping. “His mother nearly got him killed — you saw it yourself.”
The neighbor immediately called the police. Officers arrived quickly and took the mother away, even as she continued to shout insults. Ehrlich told them everything, leaving nothing out.

After an investigation, the mother lost her parental rights. The boy stayed temporarily with the kind neighbor, and later was placed in a foster family.
Ehrlich disappeared — no one saw him around the neighborhood again. But months later, people still remembered that he was the one who saved the life of a boy who could have suffered even more if left in the care of such a mother.
