Svetlana lives what seems like a happy, stable life: ten years of marriage, a loving husband Konstantin, a five-year-old son Artem, a good job, and a spacious apartment gifted by her parents. When she suggests buying a summer house, Konstantin enthusiastically supports the idea and even offers to handle all the paperwork himself.
While shopping for school supplies, Svetlana accidentally overhears a shocking conversation in a café. Her sister-in-law Marina is bragging to a friend about a scheme: Konstantin will persuade Svetlana to sign a general power of attorney under the pretense of simplifying the dacha purchase. In reality, they plan to use it to transfer Svetlana’s apartment to Konstantin’s mother and Marina, then leave Svetlana with nothing.
Devastated, Svetlana struggles to believe it—until Konstantin comes home and casually presents the very same power of attorney, repeating the exact excuse Marina described. The betrayal becomes undeniable.
When confronted, Konstantin first denies everything, then admits the truth. His mask drops completely: he claims his family “deserves” part of Svetlana’s apartment because his mother lived poorly, while Svetlana was “lucky.” The loving husband is revealed as a calculating accomplice in a long-planned deception.
Svetlana refuses to negotiate. Calmly and firmly, she orders Konstantin to pack his things and leave immediately. He spends the night at his mother’s place, after which his family begins calling—first with tears and manipulation, then with open aggression. Marina openly declares that Svetlana has no right to the apartment because it was a gift from her parents.
Svetlana cuts off all contact, blocks their numbers, and prepares for divorce. Though she faces emotional pain and legal proceedings ahead, she feels relief and clarity. Her home remains hers, her son is safe, and her future is once again under her control.
The story ends with Svetlana realizing a hard truth: love without boundaries is dangerous—but self-respect restores freedom. For her son and herself, she chooses strength, independence, and a new beginning.
