😯 I came back from a business trip and found my boys asleep in the hallway. I was shocked when I discovered why they weren’t in their room.
I regularly go on business trips for a few days, and during those times, my mother usually comes to take care of the kids. Recently, my husband changed jobs and now works from home. This time, he offered to look after the children during my absence instead of my mother. I still asked my mom to stop by occasionally to help with meals and lend a hand.
I felt more at ease this time when I left. I was supposed to be gone for a week, but I decided to return two days early as a surprise.
I arrived late at night, and when I opened the door, I was stunned. First, the door wasn’t properly closed — it looked like it had been poorly locked. And then I saw my two sons, aged 6 and 8, asleep on the cold floor of the hallway. I couldn’t understand what was going on.
I also heard strange noises coming from the children’s room. Feeling a bit uneasy, I walked toward the room to see what was happening. When I opened the door, what I saw completely broke me.

When I opened the door, I saw my husband sitting comfortably on the couch, holding a video game controller.
I stood there watching him, puzzled.
He was so absorbed in his game that he didn’t even hear me come in.
It was as if he were in another world — completely disconnected from reality.

I walked up to him, and without even looking up, he muttered:
“You came back early.”
When I asked why the kids weren’t in their beds, he casually replied:
“They don’t want to sleep in their room anymore…”

“They say it smells weird in there. That shadows move around at night.
So I thought it’d be better to let them sleep near our room, just in case.”
I froze.
His response deeply upset me, and I was shocked by how calm he was about it.
