I woke up this morning because my dog was scratching the wall of my room and barking in fear: I couldn’t even imagine what was hiding behind that wall 😱 😱 I’ve been living alone for several years now. My husband left this world only recently, the children have moved away and don’t come often. My only constant companion has become my dog — a golden retriever named Bonya. She is smart, calm and sensitive. She has never given an alarm signal without a reason. We understood each other perfectly — and that’s why I was alarmed by her behavior. It started early one morning.
I woke up from a strange sound — as if someone was quietly scratching the wall. Opening my eyes, I saw Bonya standing by the wall opposite the bed and furiously scratching it with her paws. “What did you find there? Did you see a spider or something?” I muttered, coming closer. There was nothing on the wall — no spiders, no cracks. I petted Bonya, took her to the kitchen, but as soon as we returned to the bedroom, she ran to the same spot again. This went on for several days.

I was starting to get irritated: I didn’t sleep, I was tired, I didn’t understand what was bothering her. At some point, I couldn’t take it anymore. I called a repairman to just break down the wall and find the problem. The repairman arrived, listened to me, and started removing the drywall. As soon as he opened the right section, we immediately noticed something terrible…
😱😱 The dog wasn’t wrong! Continued in the first comment 👇👇 As soon as he opened the right section, a pungent smell of burning poured out of the wall. “Stop! Don’t touch it,” he said sharply and reached for a flashlight. We saw something we didn’t expect: behind the drywall was old, blackened wiring. The insulation on the wires had almost completely burned away, and in some places the metal was already exposed. One of the wires was sparking
. “You were incredibly lucky,” said the repairman. “A little more and you would have had a fire.” He later explained that it was old aluminum wiring that had not been replaced during the previous renovation. And someone had probably just covered the problem area with drywall so as not to spend money on replacement. Bonya smelled something burning and perhaps even heard faint crackling sounds that I simply didn’t notice. After replacing the wiring and checking all the electrics, I was finally able to sleep peacefully again. But the main thing is that I realized that my dog is not just a loyal friend. She is my real guardian angel.
