Anna’s mother-in-law demands that Anna clear out her sewing room so her sister-in-law can move in, calling Anna’s work “useless rags.” Anna’s husband supports his mother, dismissing Anna’s craft as just a hobby. Shocked, the mother-in-law finally acknowledges Anna’s talent and even asks her to sew a dress—offering to pay. The husband, realizing how badly he underestimated his wife, buys her a professional sewing machine as a silent apology.
