Her Inheritance
It started like any quiet evening. Soup, tea, fading sunlight.
Then Alexei calmly said they would sell her apartment — the one she inherited from her grandmother — to buy his mother a house.
Not asked.
Decided.
Irina froze. That apartment was her safety, her past, her only certainty. But Alexei spoke of it like a useless asset. When she resisted, he accused her of selfishness. Of not loving his sick mother enough.
The next morning, his mother moved in — with suitcases, opinions, and plans to sell Irina’s home. Realtors were already discussed. Keys demanded. Irina became invisible in her own apartment.
She went to a lawyer.
And learned the truth: the apartment was hers alone. Legally untouchable. No sale without her consent.
When she said no, the real war began. Silence. Humiliation. Pressure. Alexei made it clear: if she lived on his money, she would obey his rules.
Then he made a mistake.
He forgot his phone.
Irina read the messages:
“We’ll break her.”
“She’s stupid.”
“We’ll split the money — mom gets the house, I get a new car.”
It wasn’t about family.
It was a scam.
That evening, she laid the printed messages on the table.
And ended everything.
By morning, they were gone. She filed for divorce. The apartment stayed hers. So did her dignity.
They tried to take her past.
Instead, they gave her back her future.
