My wife said she was hearing strange noises coming from our old well. I grabbed a flashlight, went to check, and saw something scary inside the well. 😨😨
My wife, our grandson, and I recently bought a small house in the countryside to spend the summer away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was the perfect place: quiet, spacious yard, fresh air.
The previous owner of the house had warned us: in the yard, there’s an old well that hasn’t worked for many years. “If you want, you can fill it with earth and remove the top,” he told us. But I didn’t pay much attention. What could be so scary about an old, long-abandoned well?
Everything was quiet for a few days, until one day something terrible happened.
I was sitting in the bedroom reading a book. My wife was next to me, our son playing in his room. It was very hot outside, so we decided to stay inside. Suddenly, my wife rushed into the room, her eyes full of fear:
“From the well…” she whispered, taking my hand. “There are noises coming from the well!”
I tore myself away from my book and looked at her, surprised.
“What are you talking about? You must have been dreaming. Maybe it was the wind or birds.”
She shook her head vigorously, gripping my hand tighter.
“No. I heard it clearly. Let’s go quickly, I’m very scared.”
I stood up, although I still had doubts. The well is old and closed. What could be inside?
We went out into the courtyard. I looked at the well: no sound.
“Look,” I said, trying to reassure her. “Everything is silent. Nothing.”
My wife pressed her hands to her chest and shook her head.
“You don’t understand… I heard a voice. There’s something in there!”
I took a few steps toward the well. The planks of the lid were cracked, grass was growing around the edges, and the chain was dangling downward. I leaned over, but all I saw was darkness. No sound.
“You see?” I said, although I felt uneasy. “There’s nothing there. Maybe the noise was coming from the field or the road.”
“No,” her voice trembled. “It wasn’t the wind. Let me take the lamp, please. Just thinking about something inside makes me sick…”
I took a deep breath and nodded.
“Okay. Let’s check it so you can feel better.”
She quickly ran into the house and brought me my lamp. When she handed it to me, I noticed her hands were shaking. I took the lamp, leaned over the edge, and shone the beam into the darkness… And then, I saw something frightening in the well 😨😨

As I shone light into the depths, I stood frozen. My heart leaped. Our son was lying on the wet stones.
It turned out that while I was reading and my wife was busy, he had gone out into the yard without us noticing. He had approached the well to see what was there—and didn’t understand how he had fallen in.
For almost an hour, he called for help, but we couldn’t hear his cries because of the depths. We were convinced he was playing in his room. It’s a miracle that our son is alive.
I immediately called 911. The paramedics arrived and pulled him out. He’s now in the hospital and recovering.
We sold the house. And now, I want to say one thing: please, always supervise your children. Even the most ordinary thing can become the cause of a real tragedy.
