The police found a strange old man on the street who couldn’t remember his name or address. When they finally found his house and went there, they discovered something horrible inside.
“Officer, we found this man on the street today. He had no documents on him, he doesn’t remember his address or his name. Maybe he’s sick… or hiding something. What should we do?”
“Nothing. I’ll take care of it,” the young police officer replied briefly, taking the old man by the hand.
The old man was seated in an office. He looked tired and confused, but his eyes shone with a strange light—perhaps worry, perhaps anguish.
The police officer began with simple questions:
“Where are you from?”
“I don’t remember…”
“Do you have children?” Relatives?
— No… no one…
— Do you know your name?
— No…
The answers were confused, sometimes completely meaningless. It seemed as if the old man was hiding something or was afraid to tell the truth. The officer became suspicious.
He requested the surveillance camera footage from the street where the old man had been found. For several hours, he studied the videos. The man simply wandered the streets—slowly, sometimes stopping, as if he had forgotten where he was going.
For an entire day, the officer and his colleagues examined dozens of cameras, following the old man’s every step. Finally, they managed to figure out which house he had come from. The officer took the man with him—perhaps this would help jog his memory.
When they arrived at the address and knocked on the door, no one opened the door. The house was dark and silent.
—Perhaps he lives alone? suggested one of the officers.
“No. Let’s check. Have the door unlocked.”
The door gave way with a heavy knock. The officers entered, and what they saw inside the house shocked everyone 😱😱

On the sofa was an elderly woman. Her face was pale, her breathing ragged. She could barely move, but her lips silently tried to say something like, “Help me…”
The officer immediately called for help. At that moment, everything became clear.
The old man was indeed suffering from dementia. That day, his wife had suddenly felt very ill. He tried to call for help, but the phone was too complicated for him. He then decided to go to the neighbors’ house… and forgot why he had gone out.
The hours turned into a painful wandering through the streets, until his strength completely failed him.
It turned out that the old man had provided help after all. Even a day late, his desperate attempt to save his wife had finally worked.
After the incident, the police were not indifferent: they collected money and hired a home caregiver for the elderly couple.
