“Wear your sister’s old suit. New clothes don’t suit your status.”
These words echoed in her head as Keira stood in front of the mirror. Her jacket hung, her trousers were held up with pins, and her insides clenched with shame. But she had no choice—this was the most important interview of her life.
In the office of a large company, everything seemed alien: the glass, the cold, the confident people. Keira felt out of place… until she entered the conference room.
The CEO, Evelyn Cross, looked at her carefully. Not in her eyes, but at her suit.
Silence.
Then she slowly stood up, took off her jacket, and handed it to Keira:
“Take this off.”
Her hands shook, but Keira obeyed. The new jacket fit almost perfectly. And suddenly, in her reflection, she saw not a broken woman… but a specialist she could listen to.
“I read your work,” Evelyn said calmly, returning to her seat. “You’ve solved a problem my team has been struggling with for months.”
Keira froze.
“I know who you are. The question is… why do you allow others to make you less than you are?”
At that moment, something inside her switched.
The interview went quickly. Without any unnecessary questions.
At the end, Evelyn closed the folder and said:
“You’re hired. And one more thing… starting today, your account is yours alone. The legal department will be preparing the paperwork.”
Keira didn’t immediately understand.
And then—for the first time in a long time—she smiled.
Sometimes everything changes not when you’re humiliated… but when someone sees the real you for the first time.
