Simon Cowell has once again made headlines, this time for bending the rules on Britain’s Got Talent to recognize an extraordinary act. During a recent episode of the ITV show, Cowell awarded the Golden Buzzer to Electric Umbrella, a band made up of musicians with learning disabilities who performed an original song about acceptance and understanding.
The moment was particularly surprising because Cowell had already used his Golden Buzzer earlier in the season, something judges are traditionally allowed to do only once. His unexpected decision left his fellow judges—Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli—in shock, as the iconic golden confetti rained down on the elated performers.

Simon, known for his often harsh and straightforward critiques, was visibly moved by Electric Umbrella’s performance. After their heartfelt and uplifting act, he told them:
“I felt like I was watching a movie. You were spectacular.”

Despite the fact that he had exhausted his Golden Buzzer privileges, Simon overrode the rules, explaining that he simply had to recognize the band’s talent and message. The audience erupted in cheers as the group celebrated their immediate advancement to the live semi-finals.
