Marina was seriously ill with a very high fever and could barely move. She asked her husband, Andrey, for water and medicine, but he acted irritated and afraid of catching germs. He kept his distance, brought her little help, and locked himself in another room to play games.
When Marina asked him to go to the pharmacy, he said he was busy and might go later. Soon after, Andrey received a call from his mother, who complained of dizziness and high blood pressure. Instantly, he became caring and attentive. He rushed to pack food and medicines for her — even taking the last fever medicine Marina needed — and left the apartment.
Left alone, weak and dehydrated, Marina tried to crawl to the kitchen for water, fell, and injured her knee. When she called Andrey for help, he dismissed her pain and told her to handle it herself because his mother was more important.
That moment changed everything. Marina realized she had been abandoned.
With help from a kind neighbor, she recovered enough to act. She changed the door locks and packed all of Andrey’s belongings, leaving them outside. When he returned and found himself locked out, she calmly told him the truth: this was no longer his home.
For the first time, Marina chose herself — and felt certain she had done the right thing.
