Maria, a doctor, receives a late-night call: her former brother-in-law Igor is in intensive care after a heart attack and asks to see her. Though she divorced his brother Viktor years ago, she comes.
In the hospital, Igor reveals the truth Maria never knew: Viktor loved her deeply but was terrified of having children because of trauma from their abusive father. Out of fear and shame, Viktor stayed silent, which destroyed their marriage. Igor asks Maria not to return to Viktor, but simply to talk to him and forgive.
Maria meets Viktor. They finally speak honestly, admit their mistakes, and let go of years of resentment. They don’t rush to reunite, but find peace and understanding.
Igor survives. Viktor begins therapy. Maria feels lighter—no longer angry, no longer hurt. The story ends with the idea that forgiveness and honest conversation, even when they come too late, can still heal.
