A Texas man has gone viral after bidding on a Taylor Swift-signed guitar at an auction, only to smash it with a hammer moments later. The incident occurred at the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner in Waxahachie, Texas, on September 28, a fundraising event supporting agricultural and rural education for local youth.

The video, now widely circulated on social media, shows the man placing a winning bid of $4,000 for the guitar. As he approached the stage to collect the item, he was handed a hammer and, without hesitation, began smashing the guitar in front of stunned attendees.

“When the man announced his intention to smash it, the camera phones came out,” an event attendee told The Independent. Among the other prizes auctioned at the event were tickets to see George Strait and Chris Stapleton, an African safari, and a trip to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

Some social media users speculated that the man’s actions were in response to Taylor Swift’s recent political endorsement of Kamala Harris. However, TMZ clarified that the guitar was donated long before Swift made her announcement.

The man’s stunt has sparked a heated online debate. While some people applauded him for destroying the guitar, others criticized the act, suggesting he should have donated the money directly to charity instead. “What a waste of money,” one commenter remarked, while another countered, “It wasn’t a waste at all! The $4,000 he spent went to the kids, supporting the Future Farmers of America.”

Despite the controversy, the proceeds from the auction, including the bid for the guitar, went toward benefiting local youth programs.
