Anna walked along a narrow forest path, buried in fresh snow. After many years of living in the city, she had returned to her native village—the very one where she had spent her childhood. Having lost her mother and father, Anna decided to sell her old house and never return. But before that, she wanted to spend at least a week in peace and quiet, far from the hustle and bustle.
As before, her favorite pastime became morning walks in the forest. The air was clear and frosty, and a white silence reigned all around. Anna walked, enjoying the peace, until her gaze caught something strange.
A human hand was sticking out from under the snow. Frozen and white. The girl froze in place in horror. Her heart pounded so hard it seemed the whole forest could hear it.

A few minutes later, a young man’s face appeared under the layer of snow. He was wearing a military uniform. His lips had turned blue, and his breathing was barely audible.
With trembling fingers, Anna pulled out her phone, called an ambulance and rescuers, and continued digging, covering the man with her scarf and trying to warm him with her breath.
A few hours later, already in the hospital, doctors said he miraculously survived. An avalanche had covered part of a forest road, trapping him in snow. He lay buried for several hours until Anna accidentally stumbled upon his hand.
And it was thanks to her that he survived.
