Alejandro returned home two days early with an engagement ring in his pocket. He planned to propose to Vanessa that evening.
Instead, hidden behind the kitchen door, he heard her insulting his six-year-old son, Mateo, who used a wheelchair.
“You are only a burden,” Vanessa said coldly. “Once I marry your father, you will be sent away.”
Before she could hurt him, Rosario, the housekeeper, stepped between them.
“You will not touch that child,” she said firmly.
Vanessa laughed and revealed that she planned to fire Rosario and send Mateo to an institution after the wedding.
At that moment, Alejandro entered the kitchen.
Vanessa turned pale.
He placed the velvet ring box on the table.
“There was going to be a wedding,” he said. “But not anymore.”
He ordered Vanessa to leave the house and never approach his son again.
When she was gone, Mateo began to cry.
“Dad, am I really a burden?”
Alejandro knelt beside him and held him tightly.
“No. You are the greatest blessing in my life. I am the one who failed because I did not see what was happening.”
He thanked Rosario for protecting Mateo and told her she would always be part of their family.
In the following months, Alejandro reduced his travels and attended every therapy session with his son. Slowly, Mateo began to smile again.
The engagement ring was sold, and the money was donated to a rehabilitation center for children with disabilities.
Alejandro had returned home hoping to find a wife. Instead, he found the truth and finally became the father his son needed.
