Ever since she could remember, Emily had worn a small silver heart-shaped locket around her neck. It was the only thing left from the day she was abandoned as a baby.
At a luxury charity gala, an elegant woman suddenly pointed at the necklace.
“Take it off. That locket belongs to my family.”
Emily held it tightly.
“No… I’ve had it my whole life.”
The room fell silent.
An elderly caretaker quietly walked to an old wooden cabinet, unlocked it, and returned with a small jewelry box.
Inside was the other half of the same heart-shaped locket.
The two pieces fit together perfectly.
The elegant woman’s face turned pale.
The old man looked at Emily.
“If you’ve had this half all these years, then you deserve to know who gave it to you.”
The woman stepped forward in panic.
“Please… don’t tell her.”
Ignoring her, the old man opened an envelope hidden beneath the second half of the locket.
Inside was a handwritten letter from Emily’s mother.
It explained that she had been forced to give up her daughter to protect her from people who wanted the family’s fortune.
Emily read every word through tears.
For years she believed the locket was only a keepsake.
Instead, it had been protecting the truth about who she really was.
