The reception was in full swing when a nervous waitress approached Daniel.
“Sir… your wife just went into the hallway with another man.”
Daniel slowly lowered his wine glass.
“Are you sure?”
She pointed toward a private corridor.
Daniel followed and stopped outside a half-open door.
Then he heard his wife’s trembling voice.
“He can’t find out that all of this is about him.”
Daniel pushed the door open.
His wife, Rebecca, stood beside an older man he had never seen before. A table between them was covered with old letters, documents, and a faded photograph of Daniel as a child.
“What’s going on?”
Rebecca froze.
The older man picked up the photograph.
“Your wife found me three months ago.”
Daniel stared at him.
“Who are you?”
The man hesitated.
“I’m your father.”
Daniel stepped backward.
His entire life, he had been told that his father died before he was born.
Rebecca approached him.
“I didn’t want to tell you until I knew for certain. I was planning to bring you here tonight and explain everything.”
Daniel looked at the old photograph again.
He had entered that room expecting to discover his wife’s betrayal.
Instead, she had secretly uncovered the truth about the father he had believed was gone forever.
