Sean was the man who promised me the world, then tried to take my children. After nine years of marriage, he threw me out for his mistress and used his wealth to convince the courts I was an “unfit mother.” As an orphan with no family to turn to, I was drowning—until Peter, Sean’s own father, stepped in.
“Marry me,” Peter said. “It’s the only way to keep the kids in this house and keep Sean away from them.”
At 67, Peter was the only person who had ever shown me true kindness. I said yes to save my children. Sean was livid, screaming about “betrayal” and “disgust,” but we went through with the ceremony anyway.
The moment we returned home from the courthouse and the front door clicked shut, Peter’s gentle demeanor shifted. He looked at me with a sharp, calculating gaze. “Now that there’s no going back, I can finally tell you why I married you,” he said.
I braced myself for the worst, but Peter reached into his desk and pulled out a thick legal file. “Sean isn’t just a cheater; he’s been draining the family trust and hiding assets in his mistress’s name. As my son, he was entitled to my entire estate. But as my wife, you are now the primary beneficiary and the legal owner of the firm he works for.”
He handed me a pen. “I didn’t marry you for love, and I didn’t marry you for a scandal. I married you to ensure that by tomorrow morning, my son has absolutely nothing. He wanted to make you a beggar; instead, I’ve made you his boss. Now, let’s go show him the eviction notice.”
