The marriage between Ava and Peter was far from perfect. Despite the ups and downs, Ava struggled to let go of him until she discovered, one fateful day, that he had been unfaithful.
Peter came home well past midnight, exhausted and disheveled, claiming he had been working late on a project. Given his recent aloof behavior, Ava knew he wasn’t being honest. He must have wished his wife knew more about his situation, but the damage was done.
The next day, Ava decided to confront him, even though it felt deeply unsettling. Her heart raced as she second-guessed her decision, trying to convince herself to trust Peter. However, her intuition was screaming that something was wrong. Unfortunately, Peter quickly blamed Ava for his infidelity, accusing her of being cold and unsupportive. His harsh words cut deep.
That was the breaking point for Ava. When Peter refused to listen and started swearing and shouting about never signing divorce papers, Ava made her decision. “Peter, I want a divorce,” she declared.
Peter, however, rejected her choice. Despite his love for someone else, he was adamant about not divorcing Ava. His outburst continued with threats and anger.
That night, Ava wept uncontrollably. She felt trapped, unable to imagine sharing a home with someone who was emotionally involved with another person. As she lay in bed, tears streaming down her face, she heard Peter’s footsteps and the sound of a door closing.
The next morning, Peter was missing. Ava searched the house but found no trace of him. Her eyes fell on the safe, which was now empty—his passport, the money, and the jewelry were all gone.
Confused and desperate, Ava drove to Peter’s mother Martha’s house. Martha greeted her with accusations, blaming Ava for Peter’s decision to leave. “If it weren’t for you and your ridiculous demand for a divorce, none of this would have happened. You destroyed your marriage and drove away my son,” Martha cried.
Ava, stunned, asked Martha if she knew about Peter’s affair. Martha dismissed it, saying, “So what? You shouldn’t have asked for a divorce. This is all your fault.”
Realizing Martha could offer no help, Ava returned home, feeling an eerie silence. The house, once shared with Peter, felt foreign—like someone had broken in.
Days passed with no sign of Peter. He didn’t respond to her emails, and his phone was off. Ava was desperate for closure, feeling like she might never see him again.
Then, while flipping through TV channels, Ava was shocked to see Peter’s name listed among the victims of a plane crash, alongside his lover. Stunned, she struggled to process the news. As she tried to regain her composure, there was a knock at the door. It was Martha, wailing and accusing Ava of causing her son’s death.
Two years later, Ava, seeking a change of pace, decided to run errands in a nearby city. While examining a product in the supermarket, she saw a man who looked strikingly like Peter. Her heart raced as she called out, “Peter.” The man didn’t respond, but the resemblance was uncanny.
Her legs trembling, Ava followed him. Around a corner, she found Martha. The situation seemed impossible. Ava was overwhelmed. Peter, turning towards her, said, “I can explain everything.” He urged Ava to get into his car to hear his story.
Reluctantly, Ava agreed. As they drove to Peter’s house, he revealed that, while his lover had indeed perished in the crash, he had survived and escaped. Using the money he had stolen from Ava, he created a new identity and started fresh with the help of his mother.
Ava recalled the pain and tears she had experienced after learning of Peter’s supposed death. Stunned, she listened as Peter explained how he had evaded the authorities.
A few days later, Martha took Ava to the basement and warned her to never harm Peter. Ava promised not to reveal Peter’s secret in exchange for her release. Martha was worried about potential legal trouble for her son and let Ava go.
Ava rushed to Peter’s car but was soon chased by Martha, who insisted she walk to the nearest road. Ava, too weak to continue, collapsed while driving and crashed into a tree. She woke up in a hospital bed, where an officer informed her that Peter had been found. He had been living under a new identity since the crash.
“He’s been living under a false name,” Officer Daniels told her. “We’re piecing together the details.”
Ava’s testimony was crucial in Peter’s arrest. Martha’s involvement was being investigated, and Peter faced potential jail time.
Relieved, Ava finally felt ready to move on from her past and start a new chapter in her life.
