Jourdan Blue: Street Performer Turned Star Earns Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent
“I go out and sing from 8 p.m. to 2 or 3 a.m.—or until the cops kick me off the street.”
From the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter to the biggest stage on television, Jourdan Blue’s journey has been anything but ordinary. The 23-year-old street performer captured the hearts of millions during his America’s Got Talent Season 20 audition—culminating in a powerful Golden Buzzer moment from judge Howie Mandel.
“This Is Just the Beginning of Where You Can Go”
Jourdan took the stage with humility and raw honesty. Introduced through a deeply personal video package, he spoke of the grind behind the glamour. Street performing, he said, was how he provided for his girlfriend and young son, often singing through the night until authorities told him to stop.
But behind the struggles was a deeper motivation:

“I want to show my son you should chase your dreams. I wasn’t ready when I had him, but he taught me there’s so much more to life than I realized.”
A Voice Forged in the Fire
Coming from a family of first responders and professionals—his mother a police officer, his father an attorney—Jourdan grew up as a self-proclaimed rebel. At just 16, he found himself homeless, bouncing between friends’ homes and even sleeping in bathrooms at work… until his grandfather, John, stepped in.
“He drove out that night, picked me up, and said, ‘You stay with me now.’ I’ve been with him ever since.”
So strong is their bond that, just before stepping on stage, Jourdan had Terry Crews FaceTime his grandfather to let him witness the performance firsthand.
“Breakeven” – and a Breakthrough
Jourdan chose “Breakeven” by The Script for his audition, and from the first note, it was clear he had something special. His soulful delivery, shaped by hardship and hope, filled the room. Midway through, the audience was on their feet. By the final note, the judges had joined them.

Sofia Vergara beamed:
“I mean, I’m in love with you. The hair, the voice, your energy—you’re a rock star.” -
Mel B added:
“It was like I was hearing that song for the first time. Your tone, your delivery—pitch perfect, emotion perfect. Everything perfect.” -
Simon Cowell, offering high praise, said:
“You are someone who lost his way a little… but through music, you’ve found it again. You have a distinctive voice, you’re cool, and the audience loves you. What you just did was amazing.”
Then came the moment.

Howie’s Golden Buzzer Moment
Standing up, Howie Mandel looked straight at Jourdan and said:
“I’ve seen dreams come true right where you’re standing. Lives change right there. You, young man, are going to the Live Shows.”
He slammed the Golden Buzzer, sending gold confetti cascading around Jourdan—who was soon joined on stage by his girlfriend and son in an emotional family embrace.
“You’re a star,” Howie told him. “I think your name is going to be on the lips of everybody watching this around the world.”
