During the wildfires in Los Angeles, Dick Van Dyke took refuge in Malibu; no senior should have to put up with this

At 99 years old, beloved Hollywood icon Dick Van Dyke is facing the harsh realities of Southern California’s wildfire season with calm and determination. Despite the threat, he has chosen to remain in his treasured Malibu home alongside his wife, Arlene Silver, 53, as wildfires rage across the region.

During a recent Instagram Live update, Arlene shared insights into their current circumstances, noting that although many homes in the area have sustained damage, theirs has so far been spared. She did mention that a small fire broke out in their guest house but was quickly contained, causing only minimal harm.

The couple’s Malibu residence, like much of the area, has been impacted by the Palisades fire, which has left Pacific Palisades and nearby neighborhoods in crisis. With the power out, they’ve been depending on a gas-powered generator to keep their home functional during these trying times.

Arlene explained their decision to stay put, saying both she and Van Dyke feel deeply attached to the property. “This place brings Dick more comfort than anywhere else,” she said. “We’ve been using a camper to cook and charge devices since there’s no electricity or Wi-Fi, and keeping Dick warm and entertained is my biggest concern right now.”

She added with affection, “I honestly don’t think many seniors could handle this the way he does. He’s amazing.”

This isn’t the first time the veteran actor has had to face the threat of fire. Just weeks before his 99th birthday, Dick and Arlene were forced to evacuate their Los Angeles home as the Franklin fire approached dangerously close. Thankfully, thoughtful neighbors stepped in to help him get to safety.

After the evacuation, Van Dyke reassured fans through a heartfelt Facebook post, confirming that he and Arlene were safe and their pets had also made it out unharmed.

Through it all, Dick Van Dyke continues to display the grace and resilience that have defined his decades-long career, with Arlene by his side every step of the way.
