When Alla learned that her mother-in-law was bringing Grandma Olya, she didn’t expect anything good. Inna Igorevna, her mother-in-law, made no secret of the fact that she disliked this woman. She blamed her for the destruction of the family, as after her intervention, Zhenya’s parents divorced, and Zhenya was deprived of normal communication with his grandmother.
However, as soon as Grandma Olya arrived, expectations began to crumble. Instead of the usual image of an old lady in a dress, she appeared as a slender woman in shorts and a baseball cap, without heavy bags of gifts, but with a sports bag over her shoulder. She not only announced that she had become a vegetarian but also surprised everyone with her unusual habits.
At first, she raised eyebrows with her healthy lifestyle, which included giving up meat, but she did not give up cognac, claiming that it dilates blood vessels. She even refused cake, declaring that she’d never liked sweets.
When Grandma, unexpectedly to everyone, began meditating, everyone realized she had long since ceased to be the person Zhenya remembered. Her behavior became increasingly unexpected with each passing day, and her gifts for Antoshka only confirmed that Grandma Olya wasn’t just a “storm in a skirt,” but a unique individual.
When she returned from a walk with Antoshka, he was beaming with happiness, telling her how Grandma had bought him many interesting things. Soon, Antoshka would be the recipient of a surprise Grandma had prepared for him—but what it would be, we’d find out later.
The next day, Grandma Olya surprised everyone again. She not only taught Antoshka how to skateboard, but also suggested they spend the whole day exploring the city. Alla couldn’t believe how quickly Grandma Olya had won her son’s heart, despite her eccentricity.
Meanwhile, Zhenya began to realize that his grandmother wasn’t the old woman he remembered. She had changed, become more independent, and even discovered new hobbies no one knew about. She not only meditated but also started practicing yoga, which Antoshka enjoyed learning.
That evening, when the whole family was gathered around the table, Grandma Olya suddenly stood up and said:
“I have a surprise for you, but it’s a little unusual.”
She pulled a small notebook from her bag and handed it to Antoshka.
“This is your gift, but you must decide what to do with it. It’s a notebook for your thoughts. Let this be your first step toward understanding who you are and what you want.”
Antoshka took the notebook curiously, and Grandma, smiling, added:
“Fill it in when you feel you have something to say. But don’t rush. This will be your personal journey.”
Since then, Grandma Olya has remained in their memories not only as a “tempest in a skirt,” but also as an inspiring figure who changed the life of the entire family. Zhenya and Alla realized that sometimes old ideas about people can be far from the truth, and that even the most unusual people can bring something important and valuable to our lives.
Thus, Grandma Olya left her mark on their hearts, and their lives were never the same.
