When I became pregnant two months after Diego’s vasectomy, I thought we had been given an unexpected miracle.
Diego thought I had cheated.
“Who’s the father?”
I reminded him that his doctor had warned us a vasectomy was not immediately effective and required follow-up testing.
He refused to listen.
That same night, he moved in with his coworker Paula.
Within days, his family was calling me a liar. Diego even posted a photo with Paula and wrote:
“Sometimes life removes a lie to give you peace.”
Then he demanded a fast divorce and promised to order a DNA test after the baby was born.
At my next prenatal appointment, I told my doctor what had happened.
She checked the dates and asked:
“Did your husband ever complete his post-vasectomy semen analysis?”
I realized I had never seen any results.
A few days later, Diego came to the clinic with his records. Paula came with him.
The doctor opened his chart.
“You canceled your follow-up test,” she said.
Diego’s confidence disappeared.
She explained that he had never been medically cleared as sterile.
A new semen analysis made things even worse for him.
Sperm were still present.
“The procedure did not achieve the intended result,” the doctor explained. “Your wife’s pregnancy is entirely possible.”
Paula suddenly turned toward Diego.
“You told me you couldn’t get anyone pregnant.”
The room went silent.
Then I understood.
Paula was pregnant too.
That was the real reason she had insisted on coming.
Months later, DNA testing confirmed Diego was the father of my baby.
Another test confirmed he was also the father of Paula’s.
The man who had publicly accused me of betrayal had been sleeping with another woman during our marriage.
I finalized the divorce.
Diego later apologized and claimed he had acted out of shock.
But shock hadn’t forced him to humiliate me, move in with his mistress, or tell everyone I was unfaithful.
When our son was born, Diego was given the chance to be a responsible father.
He was never given another chance to be my husband.
In the end, the vasectomy wasn’t what destroyed our marriage.
His refusal to trust me long enough to learn the truth did.
