Viewers of Britain’s Got Talent were left deeply moved after Simon Cowell made an unexpected move—pressing the Golden Buzzer for a second time in one season, breaking the show’s usual rules.
Typically, each judge is allowed to hit the Golden Buzzer only once per series, sending an act straight to the live semi-finals. However, the 65-year-old music mogul was so impressed by the performance of Electric Umbrella, a charity band from Watford featuring young singers with learning disabilities, that he couldn’t resist making an exception.
The group’s heartwarming and energetic performance had the entire judging panel—Simon, Amanda Holden (54), Alesha Dixon (46), and Bruno Tonioli (69)—on their feet, cheering in excitement. As soon as Simon pressed the Golden Buzzer, gold confetti rained down from the ceiling, and the Blackpool audience erupted into applause. Simon then took to the stage to personally congratulate the performers.
Fans flooded social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express their emotions:
- “Sobbing! I love them so much!”
- “Oh my god, this act on BGT has me feeling all the emotions!”
- “That was so touching! So glad Simon gave them a Golden Buzzer!”
- “They absolutely deserved it!”
However, the previous episode of BGT sparked frustration among some viewers due to a significant technical issue. Some fans complained about sound problems during an audition that had earned a Golden Buzzer from Amanda Holden.
11-Year-Old Guitarist Oliver Wows Judges
Another standout moment of the competition came when 11-year-old Oliver stepped onto the stage, declaring his dream of becoming the world’s best guitarist. A huge fan of AC/DC’s Angus Young, he delivered a performance that instantly won over the judges and the audience.
His impressive guitar skills earned him a standing ovation, with the crowd chanting for the judges to hit the Golden Buzzer. Amanda Holden finally gave in to the pressure, sending Oliver straight to the semi-finals.
“A star is born!” Amanda exclaimed. “I’ve never seen anything like that in my life.” Simon Cowell was equally impressed, telling Oliver: “You already have your own unique sound—something most musicians spend decades trying to develop. You’re seriously good. That was BRILLIANT!”
While Oliver’s performance received widespread praise, some fans at home were disappointed with the sound mixing, claiming they struggled to hear his guitar over the backing track. Reactions on X included:
- “Couldn’t hear the guitar at all, the backing track was way too loud.”
- “Why is there always background music playing over live performances?”
- “I don’t think that was a Golden Buzzer moment.”
Despite the mixed reactions, Oliver’s undeniable talent and stage presence secured him a spot in the next round of the competition.
Britain’s Got Talent continues to deliver unforgettable moments, from rule-breaking surprises to rising stars, making each episode a must-watch for fans of the show.
