The metal under his feet was bending and cracking, the roof was already covered in deep dents, pieces of paint and metal were flying onto the asphalt. The windshield of the van, recently intact, was now cracked, and with another blow of the sledgehammer it crumbled into small fragments. One of the passers-by, with trembling hands taking out a phone, called the police. A few minutes later, sirens howled in the street. The patrol car stopped abruptly, and two police officers rushed to the van. Carefully but decisively, they lowered the man from the roof, snatching the sledgehammer from him.
When he found himself on the ground, no one expected what would happen next. The man did not resist. He sat down right on the curb, clasped his head in his hands and began to sob quietly. The police, trying to understand what had happened, sat down next to him and began asking questions.
