A husband and wife had long dreamed of a trip to Egypt. They saved for months, researched hotels, and searched for the best beaches and tours. When the plane finally landed in the hot African country, they were filled with happiness and delight.
Everything around them seemed like a fairy tale: golden sand, endless sea, hot sun, and a gentle breeze.
On the very first day, they decided to go to the sea. Their spirits were high, and the wife suggested:
“Let’s take our first photo as a souvenir!”

They moved closer to the water, stood shoulder to shoulder, hugged, and, laughing, took a selfie with the waves in the background. The photo was bright, joyful, and full of life—the first shot of their long-awaited vacation.

The wife was about to immediately post the photo on social media to share her happiness with friends. But when she opened the gallery and looked at the photo more closely, her smile instantly disappeared.

Tourists in Egypt took a simple selfie with the sea in the background: then, upon reviewing the photo, they noticed a detail that could have cost them their lives.
Behind them, not far from the shore, an ominous fin jutted out of the water. It was a shark.
At first, they couldn’t believe their eyes—they thought they were imagining it. But the closer they looked, the clearer it became: a real predator had captured the shot.
The thought that they were about to enter the water in just a minute made them feel cold and scared.
The couple immediately reported the incident to the lifeguards on the beach. They, in turn, quickly responded and prohibited the tourists from entering the water. Panic gripped the vacationers—no one could believe a shark had swum so close to the shore.
It was only that evening, sitting in their room and looking back at that very photo, that the couple realized how much that chance photo had saved their lives—and perhaps the lives of dozens of others.
After all, if they hadn’t taken the selfie, they would have calmly entered the water, unaware of the danger.
