Former President Donald Trump’s campaign announced on Saturday that he is “fine” and being evaluated at a local medical facility following an apparent shooting at a political rally.
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung confirmed that Trump is “fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility.” Cheung also expressed Trump’s gratitude towards law enforcement and first responders for their swift response during this “heinous act.”
The incident occurred while Trump was addressing a large crowd of supporters in Pennsylvania. Gunshots were heard, and blood was visible on the side of his face. Despite the chaos, Trump stood, raised his fist, and urged the audience to “fight” as the Secret Service quickly escorted him off the stage.
The U.S. Secret Service released a statement saying, “An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available.”
During Trump’s presentation, which included a chart on border crossings, loud bangs echoed through the venue. Trump was seen reaching towards his neck with his right hand, and his face appeared to be bleeding. The audience screamed as his protective detail rushed the stage, and Trump ducked behind the riser. The booms continued as agents attended to him.
Trump’s entourage has since left the venue. Initially, his condition was unknown.
